Dr. Jim Daughters
the Year honors from KMEA District 6, Boone County Schools, a Teacher Who Made a Difference Award from the University of Kentucky, and was inducted into the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels in 2004. In 2015, Daughters received a Graduate Fellowship from the University of Kentucky to study conducting with members of the Berlin Philharmonic in Aix-en-Provence, France. Additionally, Jim is currently a chairman of the National Band Association Repertoire Committee.
Ensembles under Jim's direction have been recognized nationally with performances at the Music for All National Concert Band Festival, multiple National Middle School Association Conference performances, numerous KMEA and OMEA State In-Service Conference performances, the International Women’s Brass Conference, the Eastern Trombone Workshop, and his Jazz Ensemble at Conner Middle School was the first middle school jazz band ever invited to perform at the prestigious Jazz Educators Network International Conference. Other honors include a National Wind Band Mark of Excellence Award, numerous regional honors for concert and jazz ensembles, and several commissioned premieres of new works for band, including four new pieces to be premiered in 2016.
Jim's arrangements and transcriptions have been performed by a variety of artists and ensembles, including world-renowned trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, in addition to some of the nation’s elite high school and college marching and concert bands at national and regional venues. Recent show successes include state championships, regional circuit championships, and BOA regional championships. Jim’s transcriptions, arrangements, and original works for band can be heard and purchased through Academy Music Productions based in Houston, Texas and 16Parks Music.
Dr. Jim Daughters, is the conductor of the Fillmore Wind Band, Adjunct Professor at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and Band Director at Twenhofel Middle School. Dr. Daughters received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Kentucky. Jim was previously the band director at Henderson North (KY), Conner Middle School (KY), and Interim Director of Bands at Xavier University (OH). His former teachers include Richard Clary, Joseph Baber,Cody Birdwell, and Richard Domek.
Jim is a multiple recipient of the National Band Association Citation of Excellence and he was a semi- finalist for the first annual Grammy Awards Foundation National Music Educator of the Year. Dr. Daughters has been a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator with school bands, regional and state honor bands, and he has presented clinics at several state conferences.
